Blackbutt Mono Tread
40mm Steel Mono Timber Stair Tread
Elevate your staircase with our precision-machined 40mm thick solid timber stair tread, expertly crafted for durability, comfort, and a seamless fit on steel mono or stringer systems where the tread is seen from all sides.
Dimensions & Profile:
- Thickness: 40mm (robust and stable for high-traffic residential use, providing superior strength and presence)
- Going: 240mm or 250mm
- Total depth: 260mm or 270mm (includes a 20mm overhang/nosing for a classic, elegant projection that enhances safety and aesthetics)
- All Edges: Attractive 6mm pencil round profile on all four sides (front, back, left, and right) – subtle, smooth rounded edges that provide a refined look, reduce sharp corners, and ensure a fully finished, exposed aesthetic ideal for open mono designs
This tread is designed specifically for open stairs with central steel mono stringers, where treads are supported centrally and all edges are visible. Manufactured without a riser groove for open configurations where risers are optional or omitted. Note: For a polished finish at the top of the staircase, we recommend using a square-back top tread (See – SQUARE BACK 40mm Steel Mono Timber Stair Tread) to neatly butt to a top riser or finished face of a bulkhead.
Perfect for both new builds and renovations, the 40mm thick construction ensures long-lasting performance in family homes, while the all-around pencil round edges and overhang create a timeless, sophisticated finish that complements contemporary, coastal, or traditional designs.
Key Benefits:
- Streamlined installation onto steel mono stringers
- Smooth, sanded surfaces ready for your choice of stain, oil, or clear finish
- Naturally beautiful grain and tones that add warmth and character
Available in both 1m and 1.5m lengths to suit your project. All products are delivered raw, pre-finished sanded to 100 grit.
Blackbutt, a premium Australian native hardwood (Eucalyptus pilularis), boasts a clean, uniform appearance with pale golden-brown to straw tones and a straight, even grain—occasionally accented by subtle gum veins for added rustic charm. Exceptionally durable and fire-resistant, with high density and strength, Blackbutt excels in high-traffic areas and is ideal for stair components that demand longevity and low maintenance. Its neutral palette complements contemporary and coastal interiors, while its natural toughness makes it suitable for treads, stringers, risers, and handrails that stand up to everyday family use.
