For 40mm open house paint grade strings we use second grade hardwood such as Melunak with poor colour consistency that can't be used as polish grade.

These strings are sold as a pair and delivered as a left-hand and right-hand string together. The tread pockets are routed the whole way through to prevent water pooling and rotting the timber.

This string is made specifically for open riser sawtooth stairs, where the treads sit on the cut steps of the string. It works equally well as a wall string or outer string and pairs perfectly with our 40mm Open Timber Stair Treads for a clean, secure fit. These strings can also work with 30mm treads if you are just chasing some more rigidity in the string.
